Bwana had been a popular disc jockey in the 60's and 70's. Most recently he had worked at Jones Radio Network in Seattle prior to his illness. Prior to that, he had worked at many radio stations, including KLOG/Kelso, Wash., WUBE/Cincinnati, Ohio and KJR/Seattle, Wash.. Here is the Original Pith Helmet

that Bwana Johnny wore during his many years as a DeeJay all over the United States. This interesting talent did two stints at KJR in Seattle under two different names! At one point, he was outfitted with full safari regalia and dubbed BWANA JOHNNY. He was known for this helmet throughout his radio broadcasting career.

The "nice" demeanor of Bwana Johnny led Pat O'Day of KJR to christen him "FATHER DUFFY" later. We lost Bwana Johnny (Born Richard Johnson) and Father Duffy the morning of October 28th, 2005 at a rest home on Mercer Island. He had been in failing health in recent years, but was always moved by the visits of his friends from the communications community.
