"The Original" Bill Bailey remembers Bwana Johnny

This is difficult.  It seems like he's still around somewhere and putting us all on!  Bwana

was that kind of a guy.  Always light hearted and fun.  Bwana could relate, naturally, so

well that, at WWDJ, I remember the local police coming in to talk to Bwana.  They so

much did not understand Bwana that they were concerned that he was talking in some

kind of code to the area kids and the cops wanted to get to the bottom of it.

Bwana always kept his energy level up, while on the air and if he was ever depressed,

while off the air, we never knew. His energy and enthusiasm seemed to set the tone for

the rest of us.  He was the kind of talent that always sounded like the shift that he was in,

 at the time, at whatever station, was the perfect shift for him.   

 

Whenever I was around Bwana, I always had the feeling that he was about to say something 

really funny or poignant because he always did.

 We will all miss him. 

Even the people that never heard him. 

They just won't know what they're missing.
