Al Brady Law remembers Bwana Johnny

Bwana Johnny was many things to me.

First, he was the hot, happening DJ who made me feel welcome when I arrived

as the new guy at WUBE in Cincinnati.

Then, he was the roommate, who’s parties almost got us thrown out of the

apartment house.

He was the guy who ordered six cases of pizza flavored ketchup, because he

loved the taste, and then got tired of it after two bottles, and we had to figure

out how to get rid of all that ketchup.

He was the guy who brought a wooden street horse home and put it in the shower

with the warning light blinking, so that when I went to the bathroom, I saw this

strange blinking light behind the shower curtain.

He was the guy who dared this beautiful girl to sit on my lap at a college hangout.

She became my first wife and the mother of my first two kids.

He was the guy who wanted to keep the Christmas tree up all year long, because

he just liked it that way.

He always had a scheme to make us millions.  None ever came to fruition.

But, he kept dreaming.

He was man of tremendous appetites.  For food, for drink, for fun, for life.

Funny, I can still hear that laugh to this day.

He was my co-worker.  He was my roommate.

He was my employee (at WWDJ)),

but most of all,

he was my friend,

and I loved him.
